Over 50 Years of Excellence: A Visit to Horton’s Handcrafted K-9 Equipment

This week, I had the distinct honor of visiting Horton’s Handcrafted K-9 Equipment, a local gem right here in our 11th District. For over 53 years, Horton’s has been a premier manufacturer of elite K-9 gear for law enforcement and military units worldwide.

What began as a passion project in Robert Horton’s Marietta workshop has blossomed into the oldest and largest custom canine equipment manufacturer in the United States. Today, the legacy continues in Jasper, Georgia, under the leadership of Robert’s son, Paul, and his wife, Susan.

During my tour of their Blue Ridge foothills facility, we discussed the realities of the modern market—specifically the challenge of maintaining handcrafted integrity while competing against cheap, mass-produced imports. It is clear that Horton’s doesn't just make products; they provide a service of honor to our armed forces and police agencies, ensuring that those on the front lines have equipment they can trust with their lives.
